MyConnectivity is developing a label to help potential buyers identify the status of the telecom connectivity in a particular house or apartment during their search for a home.

Buying a residential property is often a stressful undertaking, so anything that can put one’s mind at ease when searching for a new home is welcome.

That is why MyConnectivity is developing a label that will give consumers more visibility on the availability of ultra-high-speed broadband connectivity in a property as well as the status of the vertical cabling. Vertical cabling is the name for the connectivity between the basement (where operators typically connect the building) and the apartment unit or the upper rooms of a house.

For now, the label is relying on real estate agents to fill in the data associated with each property. This will allow potential buyers to look up two attributes in the search fields on real estate websites, namely what type of connection a home has access to and whether vertical cabling is installed.

Training for Real Estate Agents

MyConnectivity is providing training for real estate agents on how to add the data to property listings. “Once finalized, the label will very much work like the energy efficiency label which we all know”, says MyConnectivity technical director Julien Larios.

“Our intention is  also to provide buyers with the tools and advice on how they can improve the connectivity of a property, as well as budget estimates. Because getting better connectivity can be complex and so we want to provide that transparency,” Larios explains.
