National Registry of Vertical Cabling

Scroll

The National Registry of Vertical Cabling aims to become a neutrally managed, centralised system that provides reliable information on vertical cabling infrastructure in multi-dwelling buildings, playing a key role in facilitating the widespread deployment of Very High-Capacity Networks (VHCN) in Luxembourg.

The registry will be developed and operated by MyConnectivity but the project is only made possible by the support of the telecom sector, which will contribute to the data collection and maintenance.

Driving Technological Advancement and Equal Opportunity for All

In the dynamic telecommunications landscape, the seamless deployment of Very High-Capacity Networks (VHCN) is crucial for driving technological progress and ensuring that everyone in Luxembourg can equally benefit from digital transformation. Recognising the critical role that vertical cabling plays in this transformation, MyConnectivity is initiating a project aimed at fostering the collaborative, shared and cross-sector management of connectivity data from buildings and building units with a focus on multi-dwelling buildings.

The telecommunications industry is evolving rapidly, with the demand for high-speed, reliable connectivity reaching unprecedented levels. In Luxembourg, the industry agrees that the lack of or difficulty in obtaining information on vertical cabling infrastructure is an important impediment to the widespread adoption of Very High-Capacity Networks (VHCN). This finding highlights a knowledge gap regarding the prevalence of non-conforming or non-existent cabling concepts that support the introduction and utilisation of VHCN in buildings and building units.

This project aims to bridge this knowledge gap by creating a centralised, neutral data repository that empowers telecom operators and other industry stakeholders to efficiently populate and manage a comprehensive, centralised, nationwide inventory of vertical cabling infrastructure data, with a focus on multi-dwelling buildings.

The primary objective is to efficiently inventory a nationwide catalogue, identify buildings cabling standards and to provide a neutral, collaborative platform for data management. This approach is anticipated to enhance customer experience, reduce operational costs, and enable informed decision-making in prioritising infrastructure investments.

The system will enable safe and fair network inventory exchanges among telecom operators and other stakeholders. Additionally, it will create the ground for an ecosystem of services around this platform in the future. It may expand to encompass additional services, such as the integration of a centralised label certification system for homeowners. This addition aims to enhance transparency and standardisation within the real estate sector, promoting best practices in in-house network infrastructure. Ultimately, it will support and reinforce ongoing efforts to implement national Norm standards, ensuring greater alignment and compliance across industries.
